The layer provides the location and attributes of streams within the City of Bainbridge Island.
Lines prior to to 2015 originated from City of Bainbridge Island field staff, Washington DNR Forest Practice water maps, and the USGS National Hydrography dataset. In 2015 the Wild Fish Conservancy (WFC) shared highly detailed stream geometry with the City, which categorized reaches using Washington State's definition of stream types from WAC 222-16. In 2015, COBI merged this detailed WFC data with the existing dataset, retaining valid data where WFC did not survey and removing lines where WFC indicated no stream channel was present. When merging the data, care was taken to include the most accurate stream lines from both data sets. Minor adjustments were made where data overlapped and it was unclear which dataset was more accurate. During this process, 2015 LIDAR data was also used to realign stream channels from the older dataset WFC did not cover, and verify seasonal channels WFC checked but did not type.
Some domains were changed; streams classified by WFC as "U" (checked but not typed) were reclassified to "Ns" in the new stream layer.
Stream classifications are used to determine water quality and habitat buffers in support BIMC 16.20 Critical Areas Ordinance, using the WDFW Priority Habitat and Species management recommendations for buffer distance.

",
